Tegenungan Waterfall is one of the most popular and accessible waterfalls in Bali, located in Kemenuh Village, Gianyar Regency, about 20 minutes from Ubud and around 30–40 minutes from Denpasar or Sanur. Unlike many waterfalls in Bali that are hidden deep in the mountains, Tegenungan is conveniently situated near the main road, making it an easy and attractive stop for travelers exploring central Bali.
The waterfall is known for its strong and impressive water flow, especially during the rainy season. The water cascades down from a height of approximately 15 meters into a wide, refreshing pool below. Surrounded by lush tropical greenery and dramatic rock formations, Tegenungan offers a beautiful natural setting combined with comfortable visitor facilities.
To reach the base of the waterfall, visitors must descend a series of concrete stairs — approximately 150–170 steps. The walk down takes around 10–15 minutes. While the descent is easy, the climb back up can be slightly challenging, especially under the midday sun. However, the scenic views and refreshing atmosphere make the effort worthwhile.
As you approach the waterfall, the sound of rushing water becomes louder, and the cool mist fills the air. The powerful cascade creates a dramatic scene, making it one of the most photogenic waterfalls near Ubud. During the dry season, the water appears clearer, while in the rainy season, it becomes stronger and more dramatic with a brownish tint due to natural sediment.
Swimming is allowed at Tegenungan, and many visitors enjoy taking a refreshing dip in the natural pool. The water can be deep in some areas, so caution is advised. The rocks around the waterfall can also be slippery, so wearing proper footwear is recommended.
One of the advantages of Tegenungan Waterfall is its well-developed facilities. The area features viewing platforms at different heights, allowing visitors to enjoy panoramic views without descending all the way to the bottom. There are also cafés and restaurants nearby where guests can relax while overlooking the waterfall from above.
Tegenungan has become a favorite destination for photography, including travel content creation and even pre-wedding shoots. Early morning visits (before 9:00 AM) are recommended for fewer crowds and better lighting conditions.
