Gembleng waterfall, Karangasem

Gembleng Waterfall, located in the peaceful village of Sidemen in East Bali, is one of the island’s most charming hidden gems. Unlike Bali’s larger and more powerful waterfalls, Gembleng is small, intimate, and beautifully tucked into a lush jungle hillside. What makes this spot truly special is its series of natural rock pools that form gentle steps along the cliff. The uppermost pool is often referred to as a “natural infinity pool,” offering a stunning panoramic view of green valleys and forested hills. This combination of tranquil water, dramatic rocks, and tropical scenery makes Gembleng Waterfall a perfect place for relaxation, meditation, and photography.
The walk to the waterfall is short—about 5 to 10 minutes from the parking area—but involves a steep staircase. The path is well-maintained but can be slippery, so visitors should take care when climbing. Once at the top, you can dip into the pools, cool off in the refreshing water, or simply sit and enjoy the peaceful ambiance of the surrounding nature.
One of the best aspects of Gembleng Waterfall is its simplicity. The site is managed by the local community, and instead of a fixed fee, visitors are asked to give a donation, usually around IDR 10,000–20,000 per person. This contribution helps maintain the area and support local villagers.
