Taman Ujung, also known as Taman Sukasada Ujung, is a magnificent royal water palace located in Karangasem Regency, East Bali. Built in 1909 by the King of Karangasem, I Gusti Bagus Jelantik, this historical site once served as a place for royal relaxation, official meetings, and welcoming important guests. Today, Taman Ujung stands as one of Bali’s most elegant heritage landmarks, combining Balinese, European, and Chinese architectural influences in a stunning coastal setting.
Unlike other water palaces in Bali, Taman Ujung offers wide open spaces, large reflective pools, elegant bridges, and panoramic ocean views. The complex covers approximately 10 hectares, making it spacious and peaceful compared to many crowded tourist attractions.
As you enter the palace grounds, you are welcomed by expansive gardens and long pathways leading to the main water pools. The highlight of Taman Ujung is the grand central building, known as Bale Gili, which stands in the middle of a large pond and is connected by beautifully designed bridges. The building’s architecture reflects European colonial style mixed with traditional Balinese elements, creating a unique and sophisticated atmosphere.
Visitors can walk across the stone bridges that stretch over the water, offering picturesque views in every direction. The calm water reflects the palace structures, surrounding hills, and blue sky, making it a paradise for photographers. On clear days, you can even see Mount Agung rising majestically in the background.
One of the most rewarding experiences at Taman Ujung is climbing to the higher viewpoint area. From the top pavilion, visitors can enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of the entire palace complex, the coastline of East Bali, and the open sea beyond. The combination of mountains, ocean, and royal architecture creates a dramatic and unforgettable scenery.
Taman Ujung has survived natural disasters over the years, including volcanic eruptions and earthquakes, but it has been carefully restored to preserve its original beauty. Walking through the grounds feels like stepping back into Bali’s royal past while enjoying the tranquility of nature.
The peaceful environment makes Taman Ujung ideal for couples, families, and travelers who appreciate history and architecture. The wide open lawns and reflective pools create a relaxing ambiance, perfect for slow exploration. Many visitors spend 1–2 hours strolling, taking photos, and enjoying the serene surroundings.
